RFID Cards - How to set up payment via RFID

A guide to setting up payment via RFID through the Fuuse platform - covering app set up requirements for drivers

RFID cards can be used by drivers to initiate a paid-for charging session, avoiding the need to use the app each time.

For this to work, five steps need to be followed:

  1. The driver needs to be added to the organisation on Fuuse
  2. The RFID card they will be using needs to be added to the organisation on Fuuse and assigned to the driver
  3. The driver needs to be added into the appropriate Access Control Profile which contains the tariff that will be applied whenever the RFID card is used
  4. The organisation RFID settings need to be set to allow paid-for RFID charging sessions
    • Operators can enable this in ‘organisation details’ > ‘billing’. Check the ‘Payments via RFID’ section and select the following option from the dropdown box: ‘Allow RFID sessions to start if the RFID token owner has payment info attached’. Please remember to save your changes.
  5. The driver needs to download the [Fuuse] app and add payment card details to their account

How to do this:

Step 1 - The driver needs to be added to the organisation on Fuuse (done by: Admin Operator)

  • Log in to the Fuuse back-office at https://app.fuuse.io/
  • Select the appropriate organisation
  • Click “Drivers” in the left-hand menu
  • Click “Add Driver/Vehicle”
  • Add the Driver’s name and email address – the driver will then receive an email with their login details for the Fuuse app (if already set up elsewhere on the system or the driver has previously downloaded the app, password will be presented as null – this can be ignored)

Step 2 - The RFID card they will be using needs to be added to the organisation on Fuuse and assigned to the driver

  • Click “Drivers” in the left-hand menu
  • Click “RFID Cards”
  • Click “Add New Card”
  • Enter the alpha-numeric token identification on the RFID card in the “Enter RFID” box – note do not use spaces or special characters even if they are present on the card e.g.”12:AB:65:YU” would need to be entered as “12AB65YU”
  • Assign the RFID card to the appropriate drive by clicking on the driver’s name presented in the list below the “Enter RFID” box

Step 3 - The driver needs to be added into the appropriate Access Control Profile which contains the tariff that will be applied whenever the RFID card is used

  • Click “Network” in the left-hand menu
  • Click “Access Control”
  • Select an existing access control profile or create a new one (full help guide for creating a new access control profile can be found here: Adding & Configuring Access Control Profiles – Fuuse)
  • In the “List of Users” section click “Add to Profile” and add the appropriate driver or RFID card
  • Click “Save Profile”

Step 4 - The organisation RFID settings need to be set to allow paid-for RFID charging sessions

  • Click “Organisation” in the left-hand menu
  • Click “Billing” on the subsequent screen
  • Click on the drop-down menu under the “Payments via RFID” title and select the appropriate setting:

Option

Action

Block all RFID sessions

RFID cards will not be able to be used at all in that organisation

Allow RFID sessions to start if the RFID token owner has payment info attached to their account

Driver will need to add payment card details on the Fuuse app to be able to use a RFID card to start a charge

Allow RFID sessions to start, but only take payment if the RFID is linked to an Access Control Profile

This allows for a mixed use-case for RFID cards.

RFID cards that are to be used for free sessions should NOT be placed in any Access Control Profiles

RFID cards that are to be used for paid sessions MUST be placed into an Access Control Profile with a tariff

Allow RFID sessions to start, but do not check for payment info

1- Driver is linked to an RFID card, has a card/payment logged in the app, is assigned to an access control profile with a tariff – the driver will be charged

2- Driver is linked to an RFID, has no card/payment in the app, is NOT on an access control profile – the driver will not be charged.

3- RFID exists in the organisation only (no driver linked to RFID)– RFID will be used free of charge

4- Driver is linked to an RFID, has no card/payment in the app, the driver/RFID IS on access control with a tariff – in this case, since there is a tariff on the access control profile the system assumes the tariff should be applied to the session. But because of the mode set in Organisation Details, it will still allow the session to continue, but show as a deficit in the portal - because there is no card/payment to charge.

Allow RFID sessions to start, but never attempt to take payment

Sessions started with RFID cards will always be free

Step 5 - The driver needs to download the Fuuse app and add payment card details to their account (done by: driver)

  • Download the Fuuse app from the Google and Apple App stores
  • Open the app and register if a first-time user, or log in as usual
  • Click on the “Account” icon on the bottom right of the main screen
  • Click on “Card Managrement” followed by “Add new card”

Things to consider-

Start/stop using same RFID (do not stop session in vehicle, or vehicle app)

When uploading RFIDs to the Fuuse platform, ignore spaces, special characters etc
